TRANSFORMING VINTAGE FURNITURE

The Art of Transforming Furniture with Decoupage

Upcycled vintage furniture is more than just a new trend here at The Pheasant Plucker's Wife.  I've been championing upcycled furniture for a number of years and have transformed numerous well-built but dated pieces into stunning show stoppers.

From bedside cabinets to bureaux; drawers to drinks cabinets, tired and drab furniture is made fabulous again with decoupage. Decoupage is the art of sticking paper onto another surface, in my case wallpaper onto furniture. There's a knack to it of course and I'm proud to say that my decoupaged upcycled furniture has attracted the attention of the media and even designer Matthew Williamson.

Customising Furniture for You

I love working with clients to customise the perfect piece of statement furniture for their homes. We'll have a chat about what you want to achieve in your room, your colour schemes and your personal style. I know it can be daunting to design something from scratch but don't worry, I'm here to help. I can suggest wallpapers and colour shades and send you samples.  I work with quality materials, designer wallpapers such as William Morris and Cole and Sons, but the choice is endless. Fusion mineral paint and Little Greene are my favourite paints.  They have low VOC's (the nasty stuff that smells), and they're hardwearing on furniture. The furniture can be your own piece, something you'd like me to find for you, or something I already have in stock (take a look at my naked pieces).

Upcycled furniture - Solving Your Design Dilemma!

It's no secret that I love decoupage, but sometimes less is more!  A sleek makeover with a fabulous paint can make a huge transformation. My mid-century modern pieces often retain a lot of their natural wood and the restyling is subtle.

Upcycling is Good For The Environment

Increasingly, people are uncomfortable buying new furniture when there is an option to create something unique from something pre-owned with good bones.  There's a real appreciation now that upcycling is good for the environment, and there are some really creative professionals producing some amazing work.

So you've finished your room. It's looking gorgeous and you're onto the accessories. Let's face it, bins aren't the sexiest item on the home furnishing list are they? But they don't have to be downright boring. When I was looking for a stylish waste paper bin I just couldn't find anything so I started my own range.  Designs change all the time so check out the current selection in the Bins and Accessories section here!

"I have bought a number of statement pieces of upcycled furniture from The Pheasant Plucker's Wife and never been disappointed. Each one is finished superbly and adds a wow factor to the room.  Michele custom mixed paint colours for me to suit each room.  We love that it's upcycled too; it feels great to be getting bespoke, beautiful furniture without any of the guilt!"

"The bureau arrived today. I was out at the time but my wife was here and kept it wrapped for the grand unveiling when I returned.

I have to say we are both knocked out by it. You have done a wonderful job and we are so pleased to have it. It looks great in the corner we set aside."
